Air Travel to Qingdao

International Direct Flights

In recent years, Qingdao Airport has continuously expanded its international route network and opened many international routes.

Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is a newly built 4F level international airport, a regional hub airport, and a gateway airport for Japan and South Korea in Qingdao, which commenced operation on August 12, 2021. The airport features a 540,000 sqm (581,250 sqft) starfish-shaped terminal and two runways, with a capacity to handle 300,000 flights and 35 million passengers annually. Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is the first airport in China to offer both high-speed railway and subway connections, serving passengers via underground stations.

 

Traveling in Qingdao

Metro

There are 7 metro lines in Qingdao that span the east and west sides of Jiaozhou Bay. The May Fourth Square Station on Lines 2 and 3 is conveniently located in front of the Shangri-La Hotel, making it easily accessible to almost any attraction. For those looking to navigate the city's subway system, this map and the QINGDAOMETRO app (available for Android and iOS) can be incredibly helpful for finding the right line to take to reach their desired destination. 

Getting to the Shangri-La Hotel by Metro

There are two metro lines leading to the hotel which both take almost 1-1/2 hours. The first option is to take Line 8 from Jiaodong Airport Metro Station to Qingdao North Railway Station, transfer to Line 3 at Qingdao North Railway Station Metro Station in the direction of Qingdao Railway Station, and get off at May Fourth Square Metro Station. Exit at Exit A1. The second option is to take Line 8 from Jiaodong Airport Metro Station to Qingdao North Railway Station, transfer to Line 1 at Qingdao North Railway Station Metro Station to the Wangjiagang direction, transfer to Line 2 at Taidong Metro Station in the direction of Licun Park, and get off at May Fourth Square Metro Station. Exit at Exit A1. The operating hours of the metro are from 5:50 to 22:05.

Both options cost ¥7 (around €1) and paper tickets can be purchased at the subway station with cash or Alipay. It is most convenient to download the QINGDAOMETRO app (available for Android and iOS), bound with an Alipay account, and scan the QR code to enter and exit.

There are one-day pass and three-day pass for metro without frequency limit, costing ¥15 (€2) and ¥35 (€4,50) respectively. These tickets can be purchased through a manual window. If you want to appreciate the beautiful scenery of Qingdao, they will be a great choice.

Taxi
Taxis in Qingdao are abundant and reasonably priced, making them a convenient option for transportation. You can hail one on the street or use online services such as WeChat (Android or iOS) or Alipay (Android and iOS) mini programs to request a taxi. Additionally, the hotel offer its own taxi service. Regular taxis typically start at ¥10 (€1,40) while luxury taxis begin at ¥12 (€1,60). 

Getting to the Shangri-La Hotel by taxi

Taxis and city shuttle buses can be found on the ground floor of the domestic and international arrival halls. Taxis are metered, and fare between Qingdao Jiaodong International airport and the hotel generally costs around ¥120 (€16). Travel time from the airport to the hotel is generally about 1-1/4 hours.

Bus
Qingdao's extensive bus network covers almost every corner of the city, with bus stops located every few hundred meters. The convenience of this system is further enhanced by the availability of map software that can recommend suitable bus routes based on your destination. Bus fares are affordable, ranging from one to two yuan (€0,14 to €0,27), and can be conveniently paid using Alipay's transport function. The Alipay app is available for Android and iOS.
