Hongkyu Yoon is a distinguished member of technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM, USA. He obtained a Ph.D. degree in Environmental Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005. After working as a research scientist at UIUC, he joined Sandia in 2010 and has worked on subsurface carbon storage and subsurface energy/resources recovery with an emphasis on multiphase flow and reactive transport, chemo-mechanical coupling, multiscale imaging of geomaterials, and high-fidelity inverse modeling and uncertainty quantification. His recent research focuses on scientific machine learning development and applications for dynamic reservoir simulations, coupled thermal-mechanical-hydrological-chemical processes, and induced seismicity analysis and risk mitigation in the areas of energy and climate security programs.
