Overview

Early Bird Registration is open. Closing date: Monday October 15, 2018.

Dear colleagues,

we would like to draw your attention to the second conference of the Australian Chapter of InterPore. It will be held in Melbourne from October 31 to November 2, 2018. We envisage a discussion-intensive conference bringing together international and Australian specialists from academia and industry with diverse interests in porous medium research.

Background:

After a highly successful inaugural conference in Sydney in November 2016 this second conference in a biennial series shall continue to advance the dissemination of knowledge and to foster collaboration among porous medium researchers. The conference is organized by the Australian Chapter of InterPore under the umbrella of the International Society for Porous Media:

Topics:

While all aspects of porous medium research are welcome, we would like to put particular focus on the following topics:

Advances in porous media characterization at pore-scale:

· X-ray imaging, experiments, analysis of digital rocks/engineered porous media, 3D printing of porous materials;

· modelling of flow and transport in porous media, reactive transport on the pore scale, ganglia migration;

Nanoporous media:

· Coal, shale,

· cell membranes, osmotic membranes,

· nanoparticles.

Developments in modeling multiphysics:

· Computation of continuum scale properties from pore scale models, multiphase flow properties, but also including geophysical properties for inverse modeling and remote sensing;

· thermodynamic approaches to multiphase flow;

· flow in deformable porous media;

· discontinuous capillary pressure, capillary fracturing.

CCS research studies:

· Understanding and simulation of CO2 behaviour in geosequestration projects: plume propagation, analysis of complex dynamics during and after CO2 injection, coupled THMC processes;

· modelling, lab experiments and field observations;

· Heterogeneity and saturation functions and implications for CO2 plume migration.

Numerical and mathematical methods

· Integration of different time and length scales;

· scale-transgressive methods for gas shale, coal, fracture systems, geo-sequestration in heterogeneous aquifers, reactive transport.

Important dates (2018):

22 June 15 August Abstract submission due (Oral or Poster contributions). After 15 August: Abstract submission will be open for Poster contributions.

20 September Notification of abstract acceptance

20 August Early-bird registration opening

15 October Early-bird registration deadline
